A case of massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding: superior rectal artery pseudoaneurysm.

چکیده
Dear Editor, While most cases of acute lower gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding resolve spontaneously following supportive management, 10% to 15% of patients in whom bleeding persists require further diagnostic and therapeutic intervention.1 The most common causes of massive lower GI bleeding are diverticular disease and angiodysplasia.2 Massive lower GI bleeding resulting from a pseudoaneurysm is less common, but is an important consideration following a recent procedural or surgical intervention. Here we report a rare case of acute massive lower GI bleeding resulting from an iatrogenic traumatic superior rectal artery pseudoaneurysm.

Traumatic Pseudoaneurysm of Superior Rectal Artery - an Unusual Cause of Massive Lower Gastrointestinal Bleed: A Case Report
Traumatic pseudoaneurysm of superior rectal artery is an unusual cause of massive lower gastrointestinal bleed. We are reporting the first case as we could not come across any similar report in the literature. Patient underwent exploratory laparotomy, diversion sigmoid loop colostomy, perineal wound debridement and antiseptic dressing for traumatic perineal wound. Patient had repeated episode o...
متن کاملPseudoaneurysm of the internal iliac artery resulting in massive per-rectal bleeding
Rectal bleeding is a common reason for presentation to hospital, with large bleeds most commonly caused by diverticular disease and angiodysplasia. Here we present an unusual aetiology of massive per-rectal bleeding attributable to pseudoaneurysm of the internal iliac artery leading to an arterial fistula to the distal large bowel. It is hoped the case will serve as a reminder that rectal bleed...
متن کاملEpisodes of Massive Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding Due to Dieulafoy’s Lesion in A 75-Year-Old Man: A Case Report
Aneurysms of gastric vessels (Dieulafoy`s disease, caliber-persistent artery) are thought to be of malformative rather than degenerative origin. They are usually single, located in the submucosa, usually on the lesser curvature, and characterized by a large tortuous vessel surmounted by a small defect...
متن کاملHaematochezia from a Splenic Artery Pseudoaneurysm Communicating with Transverse Colon: A Case Report and Literature Review
Splenic artery aneurysms (SAA) are the third most common intra-abdominal aneurysm. Complications include invasion into surrounding structures often in association with preexisting pancreatic disease. We describe an 88-year-old female, with no history of pancreatic disease, referred with lower gastrointestinal bleeding. CT angiography showed a splenic artery pseudoaneurysm with associated collec...
متن کاملMassive Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage Due to an Arterioenteric Fistula From a Hepatic Artery Pseudoaneurysm
Hepatic artery pseudoaneurysms are a rare cause of upper gastrointestinal bleeding with a high mortality rate. We report a case of a 37-year-old woman who presented with massive gastrointestinal hemorrhage and was found to have an arterioenteric fistula from a hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a 1.5-cm ulcer overlying a large mucosal bulge that compressed the lu...
